The Great Shaving Experiment

Filed under: life — mixtli @ 1:43 am

Lately I’ve been a little disappointed with my razor (Gillette triple-blade-something or other). I was fine enough after using cheap disposables, but recently I went to the store to buy some replacement blades, and nearly choked on the price, $13 for five blades!

I had looked-up safety razors a while back out of curiosity. I remember my dad using one for his face when I was a kid, and before he decided to grow his beard. I looked again, and there seems to be some sort of resurgence in interest in them again. It looks like a backlash on the rising prices of the cartridges and the ridiculous number of blades they have.

From what I’ve gleaned so far, the safety razors give a closer shave and don’t irritate the skin as much as the cartridge types. Not to mention that replacement blades are 10 to 15 cents apiece. Now, the upfront cost of the razor will me high, I paid $20 for a razor with case and five blades, but some can be up to $100. I bought the kit below from Amazon and it should be arriving tomorrow evening. Do stay tuned for the presentation of the blade and results from my first shave.

Gadget Vending Machine

I was at the mall today and came across an electronic gadget vending machine at Macy’s. Here are a couple photos of it. There is an Apple store in the mall, and it seemed to be iPod branded, maybe Apple is branching out.
